Testing Methodology

All synthetic and gaming tests are carried out three times with the best result taken. If the game is an online multi player, the same map is used each time and a ping constantly under 30ms is required before a test is valid. We always try synthetic and real world tests, and for graphics cards, there is no better real world test than gaming.

The results depend on several elements, internet connection, other applications running, heat and the basic specification of the chipset, CPU and memory. We always run the benchmarks several times, taking the best results and recording them on the graphs, and only with the minimum diagnostic software running to capture the results.

For this review, we have included the XFX Radeon R9 390X, this is to compare the best of the mainstream AMD range against its flagship models.

The R9 390X is not a direct competitor to any of the cards tested today, we thought it would make an interesting baseline.

First we have AIDA64 Engineer and the results are pretty flat on the most part, with the GTX 980 Ti beaten by the new releases from AMD, and the Sapphire Radeon R9 Fury Tri-X OC generally coming second or third.

Finally, the  Sapphire Radeon R9 Fury Tri-X OC is something the Fury X is not, and that's - available to buy right now. The GTX 980 does have the slight advantage in most results, but the Fury should be on everyone's shopping list based on the price to performance ratio.
