Storage performance next, and the ASRock Z170 Extreme4 takes a bit of a beating in the Read tests, though the 100Mb results are excellent, for both contenders.
In the Write tests the ASRock Z170 Extreme4 wins by the smallest margin, but a win it is still.
The ASRock Z170 Extreme4 starts to flag however in the IOMeter results, behind by a consistent margin every time. The same story can be told for the Write results, with the Extreme4 behind again. These are not bad results, and could be as simple as a BIOS issue, remember the CPU temperature misreporting?
We used version P1.00, the release version, so an update may be required to unlock the Z170’s excellent storage performance.
The tables turn in the memory bandwidth results for the ASRock Z170 Extreme4. Remember we only installed 8Gb in to the little Stinger, it will have had an impact but it will not account for the full difference between the motherboards.

We are a little disappointed with the ASRock Z170 Extreme4 motherboard in the performance stakes. The rest of the motherboard is very good for looks, features, presentation and connectivity. We just cannot get past the odd graphics and storage performance.
