Finally, Batman: Arkham Origins in the glorious UHD resolution. The Palit Super Jetstream GTX 980 Ti is beaten firmly into third place in all but the minimum FPS results. If you want the best FPS money can buy, it looks like you need an AMD GPU to run Arkham Origins at UHD resolution without fear of low FPS. That said, the AMD GPU’s do drop down a lot and have the worst minimum FPS of all the cards. Still, even though the Nvidia GPU’s are solid, they just can’t reach the FPS performance of the AMD cards.
Conclusion
This is probably an end generation card, and a high-end card at that. This means that it’s the most mature in that area and a new technology standard was needed, HBM. The idea of a HBM memory card with a core like this is just nerd porn, unfortunately it has “lower” bandwidth GDDR5! With Nvidia working on their own HBM memory design we are in effect saying goodbye to this generation of card and memory type.
What that means in reality is that the current generation of Nvidia GTX 980 Ti cards are the best Nvidia cards money can buy and that’s completely supported by the Nvidia GTX 980 Ti GPU. The AMD GPU’s are causing a lot of trouble though, with HBM memory in addition to the current generation of memory was enough to basically cause a generational performance gap. We are just about to see some major increases in horse power due to memory technology and the demands of VR.
If you don’t get a couple of AMD HBM graphics cards for your rig, and would prefer a single card set up, this is the card for you. The cooling package and the GPU core speed increase impacts in a really balanced way, but always for the better. It’s good-looking too, and the sound performance is as good as a GTX 970, it’s only the price you need a strong stomach for.
