Scythe Ninja 4 SCNJ-4000 CPU Cooler Review

Introduction

Scythe, most people will know them. In case you don’t, Scythe have been around for years and they have a notable reputation in cooling, that means sites like Hardwareslave, will always take note of their products. We have a couple of coolers coming in the next couple of weeks and we start with the Scythe Ninja 4. We recently reviewed the Scythe Grand Kama Cross 3 and last year we tested the Scythe Mugen MAX. Both scored well and we were happy to see Scythe still around after all these years. The Ninja 4 is the latest Ninja evolve from the Scythe design office. If you look at the website, there are around eight Ninjas and there are probably more coming! So what does this latest version offer?

It features a new T-M.A.P.S technology, an optimized alignment of heat pipes and a back-plate based on Scythe’s Hyper Precision Mounting System (H.P.M.S) for easy installation. It’s also an evolution of the M.A.P.S technology with the “T” meaning three dimension. It also comes with an interesting fan, the Glide Stream 120mm PWM Fan. The fan has an embedded three-point switch for fan speeds, allowing the user to choose between extremely silent operation or maximum cooling power.

It also continues the flexible fan mounting, and although this is not unique, the Ninja 4 offers a fan mounting point on all four sides of the heatsink. Scythe also implement the HPMS (Hyper Precision Mounting System) mounting system in a hope to aid an easier installation process.

Scythe Ninja 4

The Scythe Ninja 4 is a traditionally tall cooler with one 120mm fan included. You can fit one or two or some of your own if you want. We could even speculate that a heatsink of this size could almost be used passively, though test at your own risk.

We have no issues with the Scythe Ninja 4, it's a good traditional CPU cooler with some decent refinements. As with any test using default fan profiles and letting the hardware do the talking, you'll need to understand the Scythe Ninja 4 position in the charts is an "out of the box" view. We think the cooler has a lot of potential and we don't think it would take a lot of effort.
