HTC Vive Virtual Reality Headset Review

Admin Peripherals Virtual Reality 2005

Seat positioning aside, we had a lot of pixelation issues, include an obvious screen door effect, more noticeable due to the nature of the graphics rendering, and we are getting a frustrating game play experience. It’s more a case that Project Cars is a VR hardware compatible game, not a VR ready game. You cannot tell if you are compromising the hardware and visuals initially and we needed to reset several times and start again. there is a lot of trial and error, a tricky activity when you are wearing a headset.

In the menu there is enough chromatic aberration to notice a slight de-focus and the menu can be in several positions, slightly elevated, to one side, or as we found when we started, behind you.

After a certain amount of frustration, we got into a position to really test the Vive immersion with Project Cars, some rain and a Super Radical! All is forgiven, the rain effects are amazing and the Vive opens your eyes to a completely immersive experience. No chromatic aberration, no God rays, just you and the armco barrier, honestly, a Super Radical and no driver assists, just the way we like it.

As diehard VR fans we were left as disappointed with the HTC Vive as we were the Oculus DK2. Though these should be a generation apart in development, and we appreciate they are from different companies, using the Vive hardware with the types of games we like, and not bespoke to the Vive, it still felt like a beta product.
