We reviewed the Phanteks PH-TC12LS CPU Cooler and liked it. It has some good qualities at a good price and will give the owners of small form factor systems another good option for cooling their CPUs. We also received the Phanteks PH-TC14S CPU Cooler at the same time and have reviewed them pretty much back to back.

Phanteks are probably more known for their PC chassis than for anything else, including their coolers. Phanteks have an extensive range of chassis and accessories for their chassis including a range of fans. The Phanteks Evolv is probably one of the most recognised chassis out there, and still gets a lot of coverage. If you look at the Phanteks site, they do have a range of CPU coolers, enough of them to get any system builder going.

We welcome back Scythe to the Hardwareslave office with the Grand Kama Cross 3, a cooler with a bit of a difference to it. We haven’t tested a Scythe product since the Scythe Mugen MAX CPU cooler review last year and we gave that a good score, 4.4 out of 5 to be exact. So we were happy to get another one on the test bench and give it a good going over.

Following on from our Cryorig H7 CPU Cooler review, we have an even smaller and lower price CPU cooler from Cryorig. This is the Cryorig M9i CPU cooler, and the “i” means Intel. Cryorig do have an AMD version, the M9a but we will be focusing on the Intel version today. We like Cryorig gear, it’s very high performing and high quality. The Cryorig H7 left us impressed with the cost versus performance attributes of the H7 but the performance on its own was only on par with the competitors we pitched it against.

Something a little more sane now than all the Nvidia GTX 1080 and AMD RX 480 noise and hype, and we genuinely mean little. We have tested a lot of flagship or large size CPU coolers but every so often we get a cooler that is designed and aimed for the low to mid-range of CPU’s and motherboards. This doesn’t mean a reduction in quality or performance, at least it shouldn’t, but a more focused and compatible cooler for the mid-range specialist that wants something a little special without breaking the bank.

Today we are looking at the Reeven Okeanos RC-1402 CPU Cooler, a product that Reeven are calling the flagship Reeven CPU cooler. To the rest of the world it may be a pointer to their current design philosophy, technical know-how and where they see themselves in the market place. Now for something a little different, and the pun was intended. We have had the pleasure of a Lian Li chassis before, the PC-V1000 and it was amazing. This was in the day when you still had beige boxes and desktop chassis, where are they now? There has been a significant increase in mITX chassis and Lian Li have designed and released several examples in their usual style, and very much like the Lian Li PC-V1000.

We recently reviewed the Reeven Steropes RC-1206b, a low profile CPU cooler that surprised us with its cooling performance. The Steropes RC-1206b is a specialist cooler, lots of manufacturers have a low profile cooler, some do them well, like Reeven, and some do not.We are impressed, it’s a tough type of cooler configuration to crack. We have a second cooler from Reeven, the Justice RC-1204, more of a standard cooler and retaining Reeven’s yellow and black colour scheme.

Reeven is a newly established international manufacturer of PC related products. Their range includes CPU coolers, Cooling Fans, PC chassis amongst other things. They are aiming their products at the professional quality market, which is always a big claim for a newcomer.The Reeven Steropes RC-1206b isn't aimed at your Haswell-E mob, you would need a serious head check-up if you tried. Instead this is a low profile for the rest of the mainstream CPU range. This one may be of particular interest to the server and HTPC communities. It’s a low profile, large fan cooler, designed to get into small and square places without any complicated memory to deal with.

Another Z97 Chipset motherboard is on the bench, and it’s another Gigabyte. The Z97 Chipset by Intel is probably the mainstay of most mainstream, desktop and gamers on a wide ranging budget. It was more a case of evolution than revolution over the Z87, refinement over sweeping changes.

We are big fans of mITX motherboards, though only in recent years. They have come a long way from their beige roots and now will tickle the geekiness of many gamers around the world. For us it’s the fact that we don’t need another big chassis in the office or in our homes, we generally have a few mITX rigs around, as daily drivers and as test machines.

Any rig worth it’s salt will have some fast DDR3 installed but MHz is not the only key to a good performer. Timings and compatibility and reliability matter more to the end user than speed.
