Here at HardwareBunker, we have reviewed most of Noctua’s Intel CPU coolers from the recent generation of products. We had received a shipment of Noctua’s Chromax CPU cooler customer shrouds, fans and coloured accessories and took the opportunity to pick up an NH-U12S to test on its own and with the Chromax range.

We are going to have a look at the Noctua NH-L12S, the successor to the award-winning NH-L12. The NH-L12S is a low profile cooler with a 120mm fan, up from the 92mm fan on the NH-L12, four heat pipes with Copper (base and heat-pipes), aluminium (cooling fins), and soldered joints & nickel plating.

Another Scythe CPU cooler on the bench and this time it’s the Scythe Kabuto 3. We are not going to test this one on our usual X99 test bench, it’s not compatible, instead we will be testing it on an Intel 6700K CPU. The Scythe Kabuto 3 is another “Top-Flow-Design” from Scythe and another with their 120 mm PWM fan from the GlideStream series.

Peltier extreme CPU coolers have been dabbled in for some time. In the past they generally were for the extreme overclockers, before things like dry ice cooling pushed Peltier into obscurity. It was a cumbersome, and seemed like an expensive compromise and only for the dedicated few.

We reviewed the Phanteks PH-TC12LS CPU Cooler and liked it. It has some good qualities at a good price and will give the owners of small form factor systems another good option for cooling their CPUs. We also received the Phanteks PH-TC14S CPU Cooler at the same time and have reviewed them pretty much back to back.

Phanteks are probably more known for their PC chassis than for anything else, including their coolers. Phanteks have an extensive range of chassis and accessories for their chassis including a range of fans. The Phanteks Evolv is probably one of the most recognised chassis out there, and still gets a lot of coverage. If you look at the Phanteks site, they do have a range of CPU coolers, enough of them to get any system builder going.

We welcome back Scythe to the Hardwareslave office with the Grand Kama Cross 3, a cooler with a bit of a difference to it. We haven’t tested a Scythe product since the Scythe Mugen MAX CPU cooler review last year and we gave that a good score, 4.4 out of 5 to be exact. So we were happy to get another one on the test bench and give it a good going over.
